Behaviour Management Policy

At PuliKidz, we uphold high standards for the behaviour of all children attending our programs. This includes behaviour during sessions and how children interact as they move around our facilities.

We enforce straightforward rules consistently and fairly. Under no circumstances will physical punishment be tolerated. Our goal is to create a joyful and nurturing environment filled with engaging activities. In the event of specific incidents or ongoing unacceptable behaviour, we will engage in discussions with parents and guardians to determine the best way forward.

We prioritize positive reinforcement and strive to defuse any negative feelings or behaviours.

Our Procedures Include:

  • Promoting Self-Esteem: We believe in fostering positive interactions through attention, approval, and praise, helping each child feel valued and included.
  • Collaborative Rule Development: We will work with the children to establish clear rules and boundaries. If a child receives clear warnings and staff attempts to de-escalate behaviour, parents/guardians will be notified of any concerning behaviours through verbal communication and our feedback system. Children will be allowed time to cool down and have a conversation with staff, ensuring that we are fair and attentive to the child’s perspective.
  • Positive Role Modelling: All staff are encouraged to serve as positive role models, demonstrating appropriate speech and behaviour.
  • Rewarding Good Behaviour: Good behaviour will be acknowledged and rewarded, as it encourages continued positive efforts.
  • Encouraging Responsibility: We aim to empower children to take responsibility for their own actions and self-regulate their behaviour.
  • Setting Realistic Boundaries: Boundaries will be age-appropriate and tailored to each child’s stage of development.
  • Regular Communication with Parents: Parents will be kept informed about all types of behaviour, both positive and challenging.
  • Zero Tolerance for Bullying: Bullying is unacceptable under any circumstances and will be addressed as outlined below.

Managing Unwanted Behaviour

If a child exhibits unacceptable behaviour, we will:

  • Remove the child from the immediate situation.
  • Avoid humiliating or isolating the child.
  • Communicate clearly and assertively to maintain control.
  • Emphasize that it is the behaviour that is unacceptable, not the child.
  • Explain why the behaviour is inappropriate.
  • If the behaviour continues after two warnings, we will ask the child to sit quietly for a few minutes to calm down.
  • Encourage the child to apologize where appropriate.
  • Once the child has calmed down, they will be given the chance to rejoin the activity.
  • After addressing the incident, the child will be given a fresh start, viewing it as a learning opportunity.
  • No physical restraint will be employed unless there is a risk to the child or others.

Bullying

Bullying involves intentional and repeated harm, whether physical, verbal, or psychological. This can manifest in various ways, such as hitting, name-calling, threats, or stealing belongings.

It is crucial to address bullying swiftly, as its impact can severely affect a child’s self-esteem and future relationships.

  • Frequent distress
  • Crying easily
  • Disruptive behaviour
  • Aggression

  • Damaged possessions
