Smart Devices Policy

Policy Statement

At PuliKidz, we strive to create a safe environment for children, parents, and staff, ensuring protection against unauthorized image capture and misuse. This policy aims to address the following concerns:

  • Distraction of staff while caring for children
  • Inappropriate use of smart devices and cameras in the presence of children
  • Ensuring children’s online safety

Children’s Use of Devices

Children who bring mobile phones or electronic devices to a PuliKidz setting will have these securely stored and returned to their parents or guardians at the end of their session.

Children will have access to the internet through our PuliKidz tablets and laptops, and their usage will be supervised. All games and activities will be age-appropriate, and screen time will be monitored for each child.

All staff members will receive training on e-safety to remain aware of potential online dangers.

Smart Devices for Visitors

All visitors are required to surrender their smartphones and devices upon entering the premises. These items will be stored securely, similar to how staff devices are managed.

Smart Devices for Parents

When parents drop off or pick up their children, they must keep their smartphones and devices stored in a bag or pocket. If devices are visible, PuliKidz staff will kindly request that parents put them away out of sight.

Staff, Volunteers, and Visitors

  • Should any staff member need to keep their mobile phone handy due to a family emergency, prior permission must be obtained from the Area Manager.
  • All staff, volunteers, and visitors will be asked to store their bags containing mobile devices in a designated area. Calls should be taken away from children, and phones must remain out of sight.
  • It is the responsibility of all staff members to remain vigilant and report any concerns to the Setting Manager or a member of the Senior Leadership Team.
  • Concerns will be taken seriously, documented, and investigated appropriately.
  • PuliKidz reserves the right to inspect the contents of a staff member’s device should there be concerns regarding its use.
  • Any staff member found in possession of a personal mobile device or using it without permission will receive a written warning.
  • If inappropriate material is discovered, the Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) will be contacted immediately, and we will follow their guidance on the necessary actions to be taken.

Cameras and Club iPad

Taking photographs to document children’s participation in activities or celebrate their achievements is an effective way to record their progress and share with parents, as well as for training and observational purposes. However, it is crucial that photographs are captured and stored appropriately to protect the children in our care.

  • Only the designated PuliKidz iPad/tablet may be used to take photos within the setting.
  • Images captured must be appropriate and not place children in any compromising situations that could lead to embarrassment or distress.
  • All staff members are accountable for the location and security of the iPad/tablet.
  • Staff members must not transfer photos of children taken on work devices to their personal devices.

Marketing

Occasionally, the marketing team may visit to take promotional videos or photographs using PuliKidz-approved devices.

Failure to comply with this policy may result in disciplinary action.
